Feeling stuck pleasing others? I’ve been there. For years, I craved acceptance, bending over backward to fit in, even if it meant sacrificing my own happiness.

This constant need for approval turned into a pressure cooker. Obsessed with what others thought, I constantly worried about gossip and judgment. It wasn’t a recipe for joy, and by my early twenties, I felt trapped and deeply unhappy.

Desperate for a change, I turned to books, articles, anything that offered a path out. Then, one day, a newspaper letter struck a chord. It was from a woman in her seventies, embracing life on her own terms. She spoke of freedom – the freedom to stay in bed, to decline unwanted invitations, and most importantly, to not care what others thought. For the first time, she was truly happy.

Her words were a wake-up call. Did I really want to wait until my seventies to be free? The answer was a resounding no. I craved that freedom now.

So, I stopped trying so hard. I stopped attending events I dreaded, stopped caring if people called me “boring” (boring but happy, I’d reply!). This shift wasn’t easy, but with each step, I felt a growing inner strength.

More importantly, I began to like myself. Looking in the mirror, I saw a decent person, kind, honest, and hardworking. If others didn’t like that, well, that was their choice.

Life is simply too short to waste on worrying about approval. My advice? Embrace your own journey, learn to love yourself, and let go of anxieties. Remember, worrying never solves problems, it only amplifies them.

So, take a deep breath, ditch the stress, and chase your own happiness. You deserve it!
